Excel Academy's Bullying Prevention Plan

Bullying Policy

Through implementing our hybrid approach to social-emotional programs, our goal is to proactively prevent bullying by building positive student interactions.

DCPS Definition: “Bullying,” means any severe, pervasive, or persistent acts or conduct, whether physical, electronic, or verbal that:

· maybe based on a youth’s actual or perceived race, color, ethnicity, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, intellectual ability, familial status, family responsibilities, matriculation, political affiliation, genetic information, disability, source of income, etc.

· shall be predicted to place a student in reasonable fear of physical harm to his or her person or property; cause a substantial detrimental effect on the student’s physical or mental health; interfere with the student’s academic performance or attendance.

· Bullying also occurs when a student or group of students organizes a campaign against another student or when a student or group of students maliciously spread rumors about another student.

When bullying situations/ allegations occur, we conduct a full investigation and implement the following action steps as appropriate:

· Inform all staff, students, and parents on how to report bullying allegations.

· Develop and implement preventive strategies, and share information with all stakeholders, the victim and the aggressor.

· Redirect negative language that is directed at a student’s race, religion, physical appearance, sexuality, etc.

· Notify family of bullying incident

· Create a safety plan for both the victim and the aggressor. Teachers, staff, and students have a responsibility to uphold the safety plan.
